Houses in Chiang mai

Chiang Mai has witnessed real growth over the last 10 years or so and this seems to be continuing apace. Much of the investment in Chiang Mai houses, for the local market, is from Bangkok people looking for weekend holiday homes. There has long been an affinity between sections of the Bangkok population and Chiang Mai. Of course having a direct flight link with a journey time of just 1 hour means that Bangokians are easily able to visit their northern Chiang Mai second homes for the weekend. The other prominent market is foreigners looking for somewhere nice to settle down in Thailand.

Chiang Mai houses come in various styles ranging from extravagant extended developments featuring fine quality teak wood and Lanna architecture to very modern concrete structures. Chiang Mai houses are often built in moo baans or gated villages. These will often have a manned guard house at the entrance to the estate and this adds to the general security of your property.

The usual layout of Thai northern domestic buildings is to include large spacious stair ways and high ceilings. These are just some of the ways that the architect ensures that the houses stay cool. Chiang Mai houses are no exception and tiled floors, high ceilings and external kitchens are all part of the general layout. The wonderful verandahs built under extended roofs are the most delightfiul living spaces and are often where you will spend much of your time, usually with stunning views of the surrounding hills and mountains.

Chiang Mai is completely surrounded by mountains and the rivers and streams that run off them feed the city. You are never too far away from a rippling stream and many people include water features in the gardens, patios and verandahs of their Chiang Mai houses.
