Practical Approaches to Dealing with Termites in Your Home

A lot of times you might notice that the walls in your house are getting weaker and more brittle. When you see the mud-like tunnels on your foundations, boards, and interiors, you know that you are experiencing a termite invasion. These pests cannot be easily poisoned by insecticides or borax, and often times you would need to resolve to extreme measures to get rid of them and protect your home.

Here are a few practical approaches to dealing with these creatures:

Learn how to spot them

Knowledge on their behaviour and attack pattern will make you less prone to being surprised. Some signs you should look out for are:

  • Winged insects inside your house. They would resemble ants but they have a more slender body.
  • Earth tubes in varying sizes on your walls and near the floor.
  • Gathering of these animals near windows or doors or somewhere that would have the most sunlight. But if you see them emerging from other places outside but not indoors, you still have time to prevent their attack.
  • Mound of earth near your residence that resembles an ant hill.

Learn how to stop them

  • If you see the termite hill, dig around that area regularly so that they cannot travel any further and could leave you and your house alone.
  • If you want to destroy their home, be sure to wear safety equipment, spray gasoline around the area of the nest, and kill the queen.
  • Destroy the small tunnels they have built around your dwelling and spray off with soap and water. That way you can observe if they are coming back or creating more damage.

If you are afraid of termite infestations, you can always buy a residence that is designed to last long. If you are planning to purchase property in Chang Mai, then check out the high-quality homes advertised on this website.
